What is a BOCES?

There are 37 BOCES, or Board of Cooperative Educational Services, in New York State. The New York State Legislature created BOCES in 1948 to provide shared educational programs and services. Together they serve all but nine of the state's 721 school districts. Learn about BOCES statewide.

Capital Region BOCES was formed in 1953 to serve Albany County school districts. It was expanded to include Schenectady County districts in 1960, Schoharie County districts in 1962 and a portion of Saratoga County districts in 1994.
